Thank You

Lots of you have been busy over the past few months, organising your own events and getting involved with various fundraising activities for JDRF. We would like to say a big thank you to all those who have taken part and helped to raise funds for type 1 diabetes research.

We’d like to say a special thank you to Michael Hamilton (pictured below) who took on the challenge of cycling 954 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End and raised an astonishing £4,715. Michael pushed himself to the limits to raise this money for his nephew and friend. He was on the saddle for over 87 hours and it took him 14 days without one puncture! Well done Michael!

Diana Wright has been involved with charity cycle events for many years now and decided 2010 was her last and we are so grateful she chose to support JDRF. Her amazing cycle ride around Scotland raised over an amazing £3,000. We wish her all the best for the future.

Love is in the air! Barbara and Charles McIntosh celebrated their Golden Wedding and requested donations as a gift, and were kindly given £315 for JDRF. Caroline and David Laurenson celebrated their Silver Wedding and raised an incredible £620 through donated gifts. Congratulations to you all and a huge thank you!

Brenda Nocton from Nottingham raised a fantastic £1,952 by holding a charity night at The Pavilion in Derby. A big band played music and we are told lots of dancing took place! Brenda chose JDRF because her granddaughter Rosie has type 1 diabetes.

Green fingered Ron Fielder cultivates hundreds of plants and seedlings in his spare time which he then sells from his garden gate with the help of his grandson Callum to raise funds for JDRF. This year, he nurtured more plants than ever and raised a fantastic £720.

Nick Hale

Nick Hale (pictured above) and Richard Thomas cycled approximately 350 miles from the Flanders to the Somme and back to Calais to raise money for JDRF. With the support of their family, friends and work colleagues they raised a total of £1,012.50. What an amazing achievement!

Back in November 2009, Candy Gyde from Bristol organised a fun day to raise money for JDRF at World Diabetes Day. Having collected up all the money, she has raised a wonderful £865! Thank you to Candy and all those that helped make the day such a success!

Thanks to Matt Harrill of Chipping Sodbury, Bristol for his donation of £24.22 which he has raised from the collection box in his home.

Eleven year old Charlie Clayton from Daventry raised £65 by making cards that were then sold at an exhibition in Tinten. Charlie who has type 1 diabetes was helped by his sister and grandma.

We would like to send out a very special thank you to our volunteer, Gillian Sweeney. Gillian has been helping out in the Scotland office for the past few weeks and without it we would have greatly struggled to organise and finalise everything necessary to make this years Walk/Run to Cure Diabetes a success. Thank you so much Gillian!

Thank you to the nursery children at Ladbrook School. They held a 'Toddle for children with type 1 diabetes'. The aim was to think of other children by raising money for JDRF. The kids had lots of fun singing whilst waddling, toddling, hopping, skipping and jumping, and they raised an amazing £190.

Thank you very much to Alex Lumby who held a 'pampered chef' party and collected £91.08.

Thank you to Two Left Feet Line Dance Socials and Brenda Bird of Chipping Sodbury, Bristol for raising £65 from their Ascot Night and American Supper in May.

James Cape

James Cape and the residents of Fengates Road organised a street party with fun and games for all the families (pictured above). The generosity of local businesses who gave prizes for the raffle helped them raise a fabulous £480 for JDRF.

Our thanks to Caroline Carson who asked friends to donated to JDRF in lieu of receiving wedding gifts, and so far we have received £265.

A massive thank you to the 1st Lamorbey Guides and Brownies who raised £255.65 as part of their annual 'service to the community'. The girls organised a Christmas fete and a coffee evening and chose JDRF to be the charity which received the money. Thank you girls for your support and all your hard work.

We would like to say a very big thank you to Beiersdorf in Birmingham for kindly donating twenty tickets to the England U21 v Uzbekistan U21 football game on Tuesday 10 August.

Thank you very much to Barry Hall of Tonypandy, Wales for raising £100 for JDRF by holding a garden party.

The Pipeline Industries Guild holds an annual dinner, and the previous Branch Chairman, Garry Millard, chose to very generously support JDRF with the money raised from the raffle and auctions. The evening was a huge success and we are so thankful to receive a tremendous £6,394.

Andy Collings competed in the London Triathlon and raised an amazing £330 for JDRF thank you Andy!

Thank you to Monica Hayward and June Linscott who persuaded their local Waitrose in Saffron Walden to select JDRF as one of their chosen charities. JDRF received £580 from the customers at Waitrose Saffron Walden and so we would like to thank the store and all those who contributed.

Once again, thanks to Limelight News' staff and customers for contributing to their very successful collection box, which has recently raised a further £13.19.

Staff at Elegance Natural Skincare in Shropshire sold some items on ebay this month, donating the £26 of proceeds to JDRF.

A flying thanks goes out to Sharon and George Ziegler who both did a 10,000ft parachute jump on behalf of their son Andrew (pictured above). Between them they raised a huge £1,946. Congratulations!

We’d like to say thanks to Keith Builders Merchants Ltd. They collected a great £589.54 from their generous customers and clients passing by the JDRF collection box over the past year.

Thank you to the members of Abbot Baldwin Lodge who have donated £500 to JDRF.

Thank you to Mrs Eira Davies and the Gillum family from Knighton in Powys, Wales for raising £25 from Mrs Davies' 70th birthday donations.

Dawn Groves raised £164.33 by competing in the Windsor swim, cycle and run. Thank you Dawn.

Thanks to Darford Grammar School for Girls who sent in £41.58 which was collected by the students in 10K and 10L through their weekly philanthropic collections. These students chose JDRF to benefit from their fundraising.

Mr and Mrs Read from Loughborough donated £25 in lieu of a Golden Wedding Anniversary gift. Thank you!

Thanks to Margaret Hoare for organising a fundraising evening at her home in Yeovil, Somerset in July. With help from donations from Steph Bennett, Lorraine Memery and her son John, the evening raised £110.

Thank you to Francesca Day who sent in £75 in lieu of a wedding gift for a friend. Thank you for your generous gift.

We would like to thank the staff at Atkins in Bristol. During the recent World Cup, they ran an office sweepstake and raised £30 towards the work of JDRF.

Thank you to the British Interline Group who raised £500 through the raffle held at their annual Airline Interline luncheon attended by the staff travel representatives for the various airlines with offices here in the UK. Thank you all very much for your support.

Thank you very much to Diana Manning for raising £220 from the sale of various JDRF promotional materials.

Pupils from Albyn School, St. Margaret’s School for Girls and Royal School of Dunkeld all held separate fundraising events with their classmates, which included fancy dress and a chocolate tombola! Together they donated a fabulous £331! Thank you!

Alistair Eykyn organised the Observer's annual cricket match at Radley and they day raised £650 for JDRF, thank you again to all those who continue to take part and continue to support JDRF.

Citigroup sent in a donation of £227.77 from their team fundraising efforts. Thank you all very much.

Well done to Stephanie Montagu who threw herself out of a perfectly good aeroplane, and her friends supported her, to the tune of £335 which she sent into JDRF. Thank you Stephanie.
