Parents of newly diagnosed children

A diagnosis of type 1 can be difficult for the whole family. Many of the staff and volunteers at JDRF have gone through this experience. We have spoken to lots of parents over the years who have also dealt with a diagnosis; as a result we have seen the need for a support and information pack, which we call a KIDSAC.

We have developed the contents of the KIDSAC with the whole family in mind. Rufus is the bear with type 1 diabetes. He has been a friend to countless children with type 1 and he will be a good friend to your child too. He has felt patches on the main test and injection sites to help your child practise injections and tests.

And when your child is ready to return to school we also have a Primary and Secondary school pack. The packs have been designed and developed in conjunction with parents, teachers and health professionals to enable school staff, teachers, and school nurses to understand the needs of children with type 1 diabetes in the classroom.
